In honor of Women’s History Month…

My family has a lot of girls.  Strong women, smart women, supportive women.  We established Girls Dinner when my family and I moved back to Colorado in 2019. The idea was to get together once a month and share what’s happening in our fast-moving and ever-changing lives.  Just us girls - Grandmother, mothers, daughters, sisters, nieces…all were welcome to join.  I’m beyond blessed to have so many of them living here in Colorado.

This multi-generational gathering is full of laughter, talking (more often than not more than one person at a time), serious conversations and funny ones.  Lots of advice – solicited and otherwise.  And sometimes tears.  One thing that is always present is our deep love for each other.  In a world that is uncertain and (at times) unkind – these women fill my bucket with love.

During COVID, we still gathered – in our homes.  We all knew we needed this time together to feed our soul (and tummies) and to strengthen each other.

In between these larger group dinners, we have what we call “linner”.  Linner, if you don’t know, is literally the perfect time to eat between normal lunch and dinner.  Surely you’ve heard of it.  Linner is usually my mom, my sister, and myself and has become an almost once-a-week ritual – most of the time several hours long.  We all look forward to this time together and feel somehow unsettled and disconnected when too much time goes by without it.

We’ve had some favorite places for these meet-ups over the years. Bito Bistro (pictured above), now closed sadly, United Chinese (which I’ll likely profile in an upcoming Blog), and the standard go-to – Olive Garden.  But one place that has become a favorite is The Glenn in Northglenn - theglennbarandgrill.com. If you haven’t been here, it’s worth a visit.

In summer, the patio is a great place to hang out.  The staff is friendly (JC is my fav) and it has the feel of a great neighborhood joint (maybe that’s because it is in an actual neighborhood).

Joe, Steve and Matt Vostrejs, and Rod Wagner, of locally-owned City Street Investors, have owned the place since 2011.  City Street Investors is responsible for some iconic gathering places in and around Denver.  They created the locally-oriented retail vision and strategy for Denver’s historic Union Station.  They conceived and now operate five of the food & beverage concepts there including Cooper’s Lounge, The Terminal Bar, Milk Box Ice Creamery, Pigtrain Coffee Company and Acme Burger & Brat Corporation. Best part is they are family in business together and making things better in our community.  I have a soft spot for that!

So we’re lucky to have this gem around the corner.  And I am so lucky to have these women just around the corner!  Give the women in your life a hug this month.  Tell them what they mean to you.
